Self-guided tour in Helsinki

A few nice shopping tips from Helsinki! How does that sound?

Kallio > Hakaniemi Hall > Lauttasaari

From the city center, you can head to one of Helsinki's oldest stores, Tekstiililiike Selma Palmu, whose history dates back to 1953. This haberdashery store located on the Fourth Line in Kallio offers lingerie, nightwear, sewing supplies, vintage and second-hand products, as well as handmade accessories. Welcome to take a trip back in time! At Selma Palmu, you will also find the wonderful Rubylea, where milliner Eini Immonen makes handmade hats and accessories for everyday life and celebrations.

Next, you should head to Hakaniemi market hall, where you can find TaavaNainen, a crafts entrepreneur who makes reflectors, jewelry and cards herself, in Hakaniemi Market Hall. The market hall, built in 1914, has been renovated and the magnificent, renovated market hall is definitely worth a visit!

From Hakaniemi, for example, you can take the metro to Lauttasaari, where there is a small, atmospheric gift shop called Puoti pihlahan varjossa.  In the shop, run by shopkeeper Marjaana, you will find a gentle and calming atmosphere. The shop's selection includes a wide range of products from small craft entrepreneurs and illustrators (LOTS of postcards) as well as wonderful finds made from vintage and recycled materials and repurposed. In addition to the products, the shop organizes wonderful workshops and, as a new feature this autumn, knitting evenings open to everyone.

More detailed schedules and routes for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area can be found on the HSL website.

Always check the opening hours on each operator's own website.

Have fun shopping!
